Alvito House

Client Brief:

The client’s brief was to rejuvenate a dated, non-descript two storey building for a new tenant.

Design Solution:

The existing building was tired and easily lost in the collage of showrooms and signage along Scarborough Beach Road.

A bold high-level canopy removes all traces of the existing symmetry by wrapping over and around the single storey National Australia Bank adjacent. The two buildings now read as one façade, speaking a cohesive language to the busy strip. A contemporary colour palette of silver, grey and charcoal was selected along with a vibrant orange used as a feature colour on the awnings and fibre cement cladding that sets off the corporate blue of Fitness.

A large signage pier clad in opaque perspex blends seamlessly with the silver Alucobond cladding during the day, allowing the blue signage and feature orange to dominate. However, after dark the pier is illuminated from within and becomes the dominant element of the façade, transforming the building’s street presence.

Solar heat gain is minimised by employing anodised aluminium louvers, perforated steel screens and tinted glazing, yet still allowing ample light to flood the interior.

Alvito House now enjoys a comfortable presence on Scarborough Beach Rd, worthy of the trim, taut and terrific clientele of Fitness First.

The interior fitouts were completed by others.
