 Office Refurbishment, Osborne Park

Client Brief:

The brief from the Client was for a complete refurbishment of the existing dilapidated building and the creation of a landmark building suitable for its prime location.

Design resolution:

The building resides at the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road and Hutton Street in Osborne Park and is subject to a high volume of passing traffic every day. The existing three storey building was completely gutted and the circulation cores revised to suit a contemporary office building. The ground floor houses a warehouse/showroom space with a lift lobby providing access to the office levels above. Vehicular access is off Hutton Street with a discreet canopy providing shelter to the open carpark.

The main façade of the building addresses Scarborough Beach Road and faces south-west. With passive solar design principles in mind, tinted glazing was employed in narrow strips that appear recessed into deep reveals and wrap around to the north-west. The entire building is clad in Alucobond with a bold yet classic colour palette of red, black, silver and dark grey. The different colours are deliberately employed to reduce the orthogonal lines of the building. At roof level, metallic custom orb cladding has the dual purpose to provide visual mass and billboard signage opportunities to capitalise on the site’s high exposure. The resulting building is eye-catching and dominates the busy intersection.
