Client’s Brief:
The client’s brief was to refurbish an existing facility and add 900m² of factory/warehouse area as part of a restructuring and ‘makeover’ of an existing company.
Design Resolution:
The requirements for the tenant’s factory/warehouse were met in terms of its operating procedures and systems. The additional area was located adjacent to the existing factory and easily integrated.
The completed building is unrecognisable from its previous incarnation and is representative of the new contemporary image of Kitchens by the Maker. Existing walls have been clad in custom orb cladding and increased in height to conceal the unsightly gable roof of the factory. Facing the main road, the wall and canopy of the new addition forms a graceful sweeping arc, clad in metallic custom orb cladding.
The makeover extends to the building entry and offices with an entire new façade of concrete panel, compressed fibre cement cladding and feature glazed face brick. Perforated steel awnings over windows, a new feature entry canopy and bold graphic signage complete the transformation. Around to the north, the existing awning was replaced with a high level steel and custom orb panelised screen consistent with the height of the adjacent factory.
A cool colour palette of varying shades of blue-greys complements the metallic iron of the feature face brick and metallic custom orb panelling. The Maker’s bold new corporate colour orange has been liberally applied where appropriate.
The internal fit out was completed by others.
