Client Brief:
The client’s brief was to provide an office of approximately 1,000m2 attached to a warehouse of approximately 5,000m2. The warehouse was to be divided into two portions to accommodate their new delivery system of one drop of point for stainless steel rod and bar and another drop off point for stainless steel sheet at the plasma cutter. The warehouse also had to incorporate the new racking layouts, delivery system using gantry cranes and new forklift systems.
The attached office was to provide a pleasant corporate environment that had a sleek professional atmosphere.
Design Solution:
All the requirements for the warehouse and office were met in terms of its operating procedures and systems. In addition two entry points were provide to the building, a public and customer entry as well as a deliveries and drop off entry.
Initially the client wanted to clad the building in stainless steel as there was a requirement to make the building look as sleek and shinny as possible, however the cost of the stainless steel sheet prohibited this. As an alternative the building was clad in zincalume Longspan cladding (to help give that ‘shiny’ stainless steel look) with extensive stainless steel panelling used at the main office entry. Contrasting colours of white and charcoal were used on the remainder of the building to complement the use of zincalume.
Mosaic wall tiles and terrazzo flooring was used throughout the office entry to give a contemporary corporate feel to the business. A large internal courtyard adjacent to the office entry was visible through a glazed panel. The courtyard features a Danpalon roof structure to give shade but still allow a large amount of light into the courtyard. The stainless steel water feature, barbeque, charcoal and white paving and split face charcoal retaining walls add to the overall impression of a professional corporate business and supplier of stainless steel products.
