Belgravia Terraces Residential Development
The Northbank subdivision created between the bridges in North Fremantle provided one of the last opportunities for a genuine riverfront development.
Belgravia Terraces is prominently located at the eastern end of a Public Promenade terraced style development for 13 residential units. The design has drawn on the Federation era buildings of Fremantle and the surrounding North Fremantle residential area for its influences.
The unit owners have direct access to a private north facing swimming pool and courtyard. This area contains its own amenities and is screened from public view and overlooking. All units front the Public Promenade with individual front verandah and courtyards.
The layout of the units provides living and entertaining areas at the first floor level with private balconies overlooking the river. The main sleeping zones are located at the second floor level, with multi-use functions available at the ground and mezzanine levels. The units have open floor plans with great emphasis placed on light, views and volumes of space. Rear balconies provide northern light and additional outdoor spaces.
The interior finishes designed to compliment the exterior with the use of detailed ceilings/arches/cornices/architraves/skirtings and balustrading. The kitchens and bathrooms designed in consultation with each unit owner and are finished in selected granites, lacquers and veneered timber. Floor finishes include the extensive use of timber plank floors.
The development uses a combination of materials such as traditional red face brick, cream render sandstone columns, stone cappings mouldings and arches, cedar joinery and zincalume roof sheeting to create a building which has obvious historical references, but is also a prominent landmark.
Where other buildings have been stripped of their decorative elements, this development has sought to incorporate a combination of traditional elements which are well balanced and detailed.
The result is a building rich in texture, that evokes the spirit of an earlier time, one which sits comfortably amongst both contemporary and traditional buildings of the area.
